Over Two-thousand pairs of Kittiwakes currently nest at various locations along the River Tyne. There is a coastal colony on the cliffs of Tynemouth. Where the Tyne Kittiwake story began a small colony continues to nest at North Shields. Elsewhere Felling and Saltmeadows host colonies; whilst over 1,000 pairs nest on the quaysides of Newcastle & Gateshead.
